My blogging has thus far been inconsistent, to say the least. I’m going to run with the excuse that they don’t actually have the internet in America. Seriously…
I’ve just spent 5 weeks in LA, and have no idea how/where to begin reporting on my time there. Ah-mazing. It was fun, exciting, surprising, hot, hilarious and fulfilling. It’s my second time there since 2006 and a lot has changed, as it seems to do in that city (mostly in good ways, but I almost cried when I discovered my old fave bar had become a total dive).
In my first couple of weeks, I was thrown head-on into the world of web TV, and gladly so. I was lucky enough to meet so many of the awesome and innovative people that are leading the way in this new industry, and made a ton of great new friends. Amongst other meetings, projects and general revelry, I finally made it to my first Tubefilter meetup (and did an interview there with KoldcastTV), New Media Vault and DigitalLA event – yay!
Then came the Independent Television Festival – we were lucky enough to have had our beloved OzGirl chosen as part of the official selection. I picked up Soph, Nick and Shaun from LAX the day before the opening night gala, and took them to breakfast at Mel’s Drive-In on Sunset. That was probably the last moment we got to scratch our bums before our flight home (and I’m not complaining one bit). The festival week that followed could easily have been a dream. It was put together beautifully by Jenny and AJ Tesler, and blew my expectations out of the water. It was kind of surreal (but undeniably fun) to do the whole red carpet / interviews / posing for photos thing, and even more surreal to find out that we won 2 awards: “Best Webseries”, and “Best Acting”. I’m still in shock, completely honored, and happy as Larry.
Other news to come soon… our interview with The Web Files, which we had an absolute ball doing – I’ll post the link when it’s up. And, as things move along, look out for updates on Stitch, the new project I’ve been developing with our ol’ reliable foursome (Soph, Nick and Shaun), which I’m verrry pumped about.
The web television community in LA is growing, energetic, supportive and exciting. I’m very much looking forward to getting back there…
What a delight it was to meet you and the other members of the “reliable foursome”! You’re each so talented! Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you and your projects. L.A. misses you! See you later this fall!
